On Monday 5 October at 20.30 in the Public Library at Spui in The Hague
LIVING IN INDONESIA DURING THE 1965-1966 MASS KILLINGS
A taboo in Indonesia: the mass murderes during the change of political power between Sukarno and Suharto. In her novel The Question of Red (Amba), Indonesian author Laksmi Pamuntjuk describes the events from the perspective of ordinary people in the form of a tragic love story. Journalist and anthropologist Hilde Janssen wrote about the same turbulent time in her book Enkele reis Indonesië (Single Journey Indonesia) as one of her main characters, the Dutch Miny is confronted with the arrest of her husband, a former high official, who is being imprisoned for years without trial. Both authors will be conversing under thethe direction of historian Remco Raben.
